Patrick Lencioni, author of the book “The Five Dysfunctions of Teamwork” defines trust as “team members’ belief in the good intentions of their colleagues and the belief that there is no reason to launch defensive reactions or be overly cautious towards the group”. Team members who trust each other have no problem with a sense of interdependence and feel comfortable being part of a larger whole.

The consequences of lack of trust include:

  • hiding mistakes and weaknesses,
  • being reluctant to ask for help,
  • no feedback,
  • little willingness to offer help from outside one’s area of ​​responsibility,
  • negative interpretations of other people’s intentions or abilities,
  • lack of cooperation, improvement and drawing on the skills of other people,
  • avoiding responsibility – blaming and shaming others,
  • seeing others as a threat, competing instead of cooperating,
  • lack of psychological safety,
  • reluctance to participate in meetings and speak up.

Overcoming the lack of trust in the team and/or organization requires commitment from both leaders and employees. It is primarily about building relationships based on empathy, open communication, respect and dialogue. “The key ingredient to building trust is not time. It is courage”, said Patrick Lencioni. Courage to show up with our own vulnerability and to embrace the vulnerability of others.

During this session, you will:

  • learn some Agile exercises fostering trust in teams, inspired mainly by the work of Jurgen Apello, the author of “Management 3.0”,
  • have an opportunity to gain more self-awareness and learn about MindSonar profiling which helps to understand one’s mindset.

What is a practice session?

A practice session is an online workshop where you can take a situation from your workplace and try to use Nonviolent Communication with the support of Paulina and other participants.

As it is a safe environment, you can make mistakes, try out different scenarios and have fun – thanks to that you will be better prepared to face similar situations in real life.

One of the participants will have an opportunity to take part in a free individual MindSonar profiling! Details will be shared during the practice session.

MindSonar profiling is a tool used in coaching and team development to gain insights into people’s thinking styles, motivations, and behaviours. Repeated patterns in our thinking are often referred to as our ‘Mindset’ which determines our feelings and our actions. These in turn determine the results we achieve. That goes for business, but in private life as well. MindSonar measures both: Thinking Styles (Meta Programs) and Value Types (Graves Drives).

Individual profiles help team members understand their thinking styles, strengths, and potential blind spots that may influence team dynamics. Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez

I dream about a world in which we can have more authenticity, empathy, honesty and dialogue in our private, professional and social lives. I fulfil this dream by working as a Certified Trainer of Nonviolent Communication and eduScrum, coach, mediator, Resonant Language Practitioner and MindSonar Analyst still in training. 

I support leaders, teachers, physicians, teams, organizations and individual clients in building professional and personal relationships based on empathy, trust, dialogue and efficacy.

My scopes of work mainly are: empathic communication and conflict navigation, diversity and inclusion, intercultural communication, interpersonal neurobiology, agility in education, psychological safety and resilience. I co-create Empathic Way Europe team and non-profit campaigns # WidzęCzłowieka and Marathon of Empathy.

I work in Polish, English and Spanish. 

You will see sparks in my eyes whenever I read Latin American literature, listen to world music, and am in connection with Nature, especially while walking in the mountains.
