Decades ago, when I was still holding my private psychotherapeutic practice, a fellow psychotherapist said to me in one conversation: “Therapists who don’t themselves go to therapy, will not be therapists for much longer.” These words stayed with me since then, pointing at one of the core principles that I later became more and more aware of. Namely, being a trainer and working with groups of people is, like all other activities in this world, a very personal journey. Navigating among our needs, understandings, challenges, values, fears, projections, patterns of behaviour…

In this course we will therefore not be focusing on how to carry out trainings and workshops among all the challenges that this kind of work poses. Rather we will focus on the inner world of the trainer. Wishing to tidy it up a bit, so that there is more room for clarity, authenticity as well as for the undivided focus on participants who come to us for help.

In the five 3-hour online meetings we will be exploring the following topics:

– Why me?

How can we get to the uttermost clarity about our needs, reasons, purpose, values, goals… that are driving us into working as a trainer? This clarity will help us keep inner balance while navigating on our challenging mission.

– Growing up as a trainer

There seems to be a strong tendency in our personas to adapt the world to our patterns, and therefore also to adapt the concept of NVC (or whatever is the focal point of our work) and the way we work with it to our subconscious patterns and ways. How can we make sure that our work will not end up as a strategy for us to heal our personal wounds instead of being of service to the participants?

– Facing our monsters

We will be exploring our fears and self-judgements we have about the absolutely worst things that could happen within trainings. We will examine our demands and expectations of ourselves, so that we can be fully present in front of the participants, ready to embrace whatever wants to emerge.

– Am I sharing, teaching or imposing?

We don’t really see the world as it is, but actually filtered through our conditioned mind. Therefore we will explore how the culture we were growing up in has shaped our perception and how we can make sure that we will not end up imposing our own conditioning on others. Rather we want to keep exploring the mystery of life together with them, in dialogue and with curiosity.

– Designing a workshop

Ideally, a workshop/retreat will be exciting for the trainer as well as for the participants. To deliver what was announced as well as embrace and attend to what is emerging, speak to people that are similar as well as to those who are very different from the trainer… Obviously there are very many choices to be made for a trainer, and we probably want to make them from a space of inner clarity and balance.

What participants say:

“Doing inner work in a group from all over the world with the guidance of Robert’s deepening questions, humour and colored life experiences, expanded my vision. I am very grateful to Robert and the team for giving us this opportunity.”

“So many things made Robert’s workshop worth doing for me. The highlights of my learning were my new clarity on my unmet needs and how they can operate and influence my training, a new tool to handle triggers from others in a way to increase my self-connection and connection with others, and most important of all, I feel confident now to dare to discover and develop my own unique style, to be authentically me as a trainer so that I can truly love the training I offer.” Rriithaah Desai

“I liked the way Robert gently invited us to try to find the answers to a lot of heavy questions. Through humor everything is warmer and more comfortable. By giving a lot of his explanations and examples my needs for clarity and understanding were met. This workshop will help you enlighten the layers of conditioning.”

“As often when learning with Rob, I could identify what I like and where I want to move to, in this case within the education field. I am more centered, and serene with me leaning in the unknown which might include some training role for me. (…) Very enjoyable and well structured, this workshop helps you prepare to face the participants to your next training/workshop with stability, well centered and curious; it also helps you to realize what you like and want to do and how to let go of the rest, for everyone’s sake!” Cami

“I experienced being guided to a certain selfconnection, visiting aspects of what it means to be a trainer.”
